About the Owner
With over 16 years of engineering experience, DJ Slice is well versed in the latest recording hardware and software having mixed & recording tracking sessions for the likes of R. Kelly, Phyllis Hyman, Anita Baker, Janet Jackson, Uncle Luke and The 2 Live Crew.
Starting off as a break-dancer at the age of 10, Slice's inspiration was Rerun of "What's Happening" sitcom fame. He would battle against other crews while in the Delaware Breakers. One time, when he was 12, Slice aka Kid Fresh (at that time), heard Grandmaster Flash spin Chic's "Good Times" and he was amazed at the attention Flash got from girls and thought to himself "I want to be just like that." With a new vision in his eyes, little Tony started scratching on his mother's record player in 1979. In 1984 after getting embarrassed @ a friends house, Slice got serious with his scratching & in 1985 battled against DJ Jazzy Jeff at Mr. T's in Delaware, in which Jeff destroyed him. He then 2 years later won his first organized battle at the Delaware Scratch Off in 1987 repeating as champion in 1988
He continued to battle also diving into production which furthered his drive for success. His drive was even further increased while attending college @ University of Miami’s School of Audio Engineering “C.I.A” blazing the local South Beach nightclubs with his Philly influenced scratching & NYC influenced production and by late 1992 joined Luke Records as a producer. His productions Luke’s label include co-production on H-Town's "Knockin' the Boots", "Yes n' Deed" by Society and 2 Live Crew's "You Go Girl."
In 1998, Slice decided that instead of recording artists in outside studios, therefore creating another cost to the client, that he would create a room which would be comfortable and cost effective to the client, whether a signed artist or an unsigned independent with a small budget. What started out as "The Sweatbox" in his studio apartment in 1998, has turned into a comfortable home based digital/analog-recording studio in the suburbs of Newark, Delaware.
Slice hopes to soon be a music mogul, idolizing Quincy Jones. He is building his production company more and more each day producing artists such as the controversial, NY Oil of "Y'all Should All Get Lynched" fame. Continuing to battle other DJs, he is part of the Cr8Kickers DJ Crew to this day with members based in Delaware and Philadelphia.
He is considered one of the few who is a jack-of-all-trades, equally as good in DJ'ing, battling, songwriting, producing & engineering. With a humble mind and heart, Slice is surely to go far with all his talents.
